If one takes a look back through history, a common concept manifests itself amongst all men of greatness; the concept of thought. It is a recurring theme emanating throughout the ages, interlinking the deeds of one great man to another. Names like Plato, Aristotle, Christ, Confucius, da Vinci, and Newton have all achieved immortality through legacy. It is not coincidence that all of these men shared a common trait. They had brilliant minds but more importantly they had vision. By understanding the potential energy laid dormant inside the human mind, these men were able to harness the greatest force of mankind. To harness the power of the subconscious mind is to understand the very fabrication from which the universe is made. Something so simple yet so complex is indeed as much of an enigma today as it was thousands of years ago. Only a select few ever grasp the true power behind self-mastery of one’s own mind.
To think a thought is one thing. To traverse that thought from the spiritual plane to the physical is something different entirely. Any individual may wonder how this technique can be cultivated. Chances are the person is probably already engaged in the act. Most are ignorant to the fact that they practice this technique on a regular basis, unfortunately more often than not in a negative context. As a consequence the result is likewise negative which in turn causes the technique itself to go unnoticed or lack any real significance to the person. For example thoughts beginning in doubt, complacency, and insecurity manifest into defeats and failures in a very physical way. A person can actually think themselves into a permanent state of negativity, resulting in both depression and a number of other psychological symptoms.
For every outcome that is product of a negative thought there is likewise an alternative outcome resulting from a positive thought process. In fact, the consequences of positive thinking can positively impact the quality and outcome of an individuals life to a near infinite degree. This simple concept holds within it a power so great, that it will propel the thinker into a state of mind limitless in possibilities. Through positive thought a person may transcend any limiting barrier they come to face, for it is often said that the limitations of a man are only those present within his own subconscious mind.
When in pursuit of some divine goal, a successful contender first envisions the resulting product in their mind. Visualizing the end result before it happens is a necessary technique champion athletes have honed in their quests for physical dominance. After all it is hard to reach a given destination if no coordinates are given in the first place. I truly believe that the strength of an individual’s mind, (termed willpower) is the defining factor which separates the average from the great, and likewise the great from legendary. It is these positive thought processes which are manifested into the forms of discipline and consistency required to reach the upper echelon of human performance and productivity. Regardless of what limitations you may think shackle you, I invite everyone to reach out into the void and connect with your subconscious mind. With regards to whatever venture you undertake, whether it be in the realm of competition or life in general, you will benefit. Embrace your dreams and focus all thought towards a positive conclusion. By doing so you will achieve greatness on a daily basis and watch with amazement as the limitations you once thought immovable come tumbling down before you.Trey Smith is the 2010 National Collegiate Bodybuilding Champion, in addition to having his BS in Chemistry from the University of Tennessee-Chatanooga.
