Gear vs. Raw Training: Interview with Brandon Lilly

By Chad Wesley Smith

Brandon combines a very impressive physique along with tremendous strength. He is also the owner of an epic beard.

Brandon Lilly has trained with some of the top powerlifters in the country, spending time both at the legendary Westside Barbell and Lexen Extreme alongside the one and only Chuck Vogelpohl. With geared PRs of 1005 in the squat, 820 in the bench and 755 in the deadlift, Brandon has established himself as one of the world’s premier 308 weight class multi ply lifters. Brandon has now made the brave decision to compete in a raw meet, a decision that I would love to see more geared lifters make. During his past few weeks of training Brandon has had some impressive lifts of 760×2 in the squat and 775 in the deadlift, as well as an easy 510 bench that I personally witnessed at EliteFTS a few weeks ago.
